This page sets out the standards we hold our own pages to, and what we do when we fall short of them. It is deliberately specific, so that you can hold us to it.
Independence
We have no commercial relationship with any airport, airline, airport operator, car hire company, transfer service or tourism authority mentioned on this site. We do not accept payment, free travel, accommodation, lounge access or gifts in exchange for coverage, and we do not publish sponsored or guest content.
The site is funded entirely by display advertising. Advertisers have no influence over what we write, no advance sight of articles, and no ability to have an article changed or removed. Adverts are clearly labelled and visually separated from editorial content.
Sourcing
Factual claims are sourced to a document we name and, where one exists online, link to. We prefer primary sources — the operator’s own filing, the government department’s own page, the airline’s own conditions of carriage — over news coverage of those sources.
Where a figure has a reporting period, we state the period. Where a figure is an estimate rather than a measurement, we say which. Where we have no source, we publish nothing rather than an informed guess. The sourcing note explains this in detail for passenger figures, which are the numbers most often misquoted.
Fact and judgement
Some of what a traveller needs is not a fact. Whether ninety minutes is enough for a connection, whether a shuttle is better value than a taxi, whether a terminal is a pleasant place to spend four hours — these are judgements, and we make them, because refusing to would make the site useless.
What we try never to do is blur the line. A judgement is written as a judgement and the reasoning is shown, so you can disagree with it on the evidence rather than take it on trust.
Keeping pages current
Travel information decays. Routes are dropped, terminals are rebuilt, concessions close, visa rules change, and a page that was right in March can be misleading by September.
- Every page shows the date it was published and, where it has been revised, the date it was last checked.
- Pages carrying prices, timetables or opening hours are reviewed at least twice a year, and after any change we become aware of.
- Passenger figures are updated when the operator publishes new filings, with the reporting period updated alongside them.
- Where information is inherently volatile, we say so on the page and point you to the source that will be current.
Corrections
If we get something wrong, we fix it. We do not quietly delete the error and move on.
- A factual error is corrected as soon as we can confirm the correct information.
- Where the error could have affected a reader’s decision — a wrong fare, a wrong terminal, a wrong entry requirement — the page carries a dated note saying what was wrong and what it now says.
- A typo or a broken link is simply fixed, without a note.
- We do not remove a page to make an error disappear.
To report an error, use the contact page. A link to the page and a line about what is wrong is enough; a source we can check is even better.
How this site uses software
We use software to do what software is good at: reading long statistical documents, checking that totals reconcile, finding broken links, and spotting pages that have gone stale. Our passenger tables are produced by parsing the operator’s published filings rather than by retyping them, which removes a whole class of transcription error.
What software does not do here is decide what is true. Every page is written, checked and signed off by a person, against sources a person has read. We do not publish text generated from a prompt and left unverified, because the failure mode of that approach is confident, fluent, specific detail that is simply invented — which is exactly the opposite of what a reference site is for.
Privacy and advertising
We do not require an account, we do not run a newsletter, and we do not ask for personal information to read anything on this site. What the advertising on the site means for your data, and how to opt out of personalised advertising, is set out in the privacy policy.
